Ingo van Aaren

Interests: Ingo van Aaren photographs behind the scenes of the cultural and sports city of Berlin. In his photographs, he poses the question of a person’s relationship to the surrounding space and the narrative that results. He studied literature and history in Cologne, Rome and Berlin and received his artistic training at the Slade School of Art in London. The places where his pictures are created range from old GDR warehouses to Berlin Fashion Week, the Deutsche Theater, the Komische Oper, the Deutsche Oper, the Mercedes-Benz Arena and the Olympic Stadium. He collaborates with artists and athletes such as Annette Frier, Max Raabe, Anke Engelke, Peter Lohmeyer, Bjarne Mädel, Christoph and Robert Harting, Gina Lückenkemper and Thomas Röhler. In art projects, he is dedicated to the tension between the individual and the collective city. He also collaborates with artist groups and organizations such as phase7 performing.arts, the London Institute for the Performing Arts and the Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik (ZK/U).
