Mental Health in the City

In the new edition of Stadtsoziologie und Stadtentwicklung – Handbuch für Wissenschaft und Praxis (Urban sociology and urban development – Handbook for Science and Practice), published by Nomos in 2020, Jonas Schöndorf, Maximilian Berger and Prof. Mazda Adli are co-authors of Solveigh Behr’s article B.7 “Mental Health in the City”.

They give an overview of basic effects of stress on mental health and specific urban stressors. They also show possibilities for urban development to exert a health-protective influence.
Section B of the book deals with the overall topic of urbanity and the tension between heterogeneity and social participation.
