Interests: Prof. Brakemeier is particularly interested in the reasons why some stress-associated mental illnesses show an increased incidence among city dwellers and aims to identify risk populations. She is also interested in the social stress hypothesis, which states that the interaction between urban living space (especially perceived social density or social isolation) and self-efficacy (mastery of the environment) has an effect on the mental health or illness of urban dwellers. Prof. Brakemeier pursues the clinical and psychotherapeutic long-term goals of developing and evaluating prevention and therapy concepts for “urban diseases” (especially training in urban competencies).
