Thomas Goetz, MD, is a German board-certified psychiatrist and public health specialist. He studied medicine at the University of Freiburg in Germany and completed his residency in psychiatry and psychotherapy in as well as research activities in London, Bonn, Berlin and Dresden. From 2008-2012 he worked as senior consultant and head of the patient admission center at the Psychiatric University Hospital in Basel, Switzerland and headed from 2012-2016 the Department of Psychiatry in the Public Health Authority of the City of Frankfurt/Main, Germany, where he also completed a residency in public health. Since April 2016 he is acting as the Commissioner of Mental Health of the City State of Berlin and head of the Department of Mental Health and Addiction in the Berlin State Ministry of Health, Nursing and Equal Opportunity.
